UPHAM
FAMILY SOCIETY, INC. --- The Commonwealth
of Massachusetts has awarded the Upham Family Society,
Inc. $ 400,000 to restore the Phineas Upham House on
Upham Street in Melrose, thanks to the strenuous work
of Senator
Tisea.
John
Goff has spent many months studying the
history of the house through the Revolutionary
War and the Civil War up to
today, providing us all with fascinating reading. We
had a radar inspection of the topography of the property
and an archaelogical dig took place on the property
under the guidance of the Commonwealth to insure the
historical integrity of the property.
Through
the unbelievable efforts of Alan
Kelley and Geoffrey
Rendall, all the contracts have been put
into place and THE WORK HAS BEGUN !!!!
It
looks like the house will get new siding a new roof,
some utility work, some landscaping and --- a BARN
to store things in so we can work on making the house
more true to its age.
The
work is not over - the Society needs funding to move
the caretaker's apartment into the barn and some other
work which had to be delayed. BUT look how far
we have come !
